What is the difference between handmade and a print-on demand item?
Sierra Sown offers both handmade items and print-on-demand products printed with original Sierra Sown designs.
Handmade items are made in Mariposa, CA, will appear on the Shop page when they are available and will be shipped from the Mariposa, California studio.
Print-on-demand orders are produced only on demand with a partner facility when you place an order. These items are shipped to the address you specify on your order, from one of two locations in the USA (California or North Carolina), depending on destination and the product ordered. POD items are designated as so in each product description.
What if I made a mistake when ordering?
Uh-oh! That’s okay, hopefully you realized it right away! Please get in touch with me via email at orders@sierrasown.com as soon as possible, so that we can fix whatever mistake it was before anything gets shipped out.
If you made a mistake and you don’t realize until your item arrives, there’s not a lot I can do, but let’s chat, maybe we can work something out. Shoot me an email at orders@sierrasown.com explaining the situation.
What if I have buyer's remorse and don't want what I ordered?
Well shoot, not a lot I can do there. You can try emailing me at orders@sierrasown.com and if the order hasn’t been packaged yet, I can cancel the order, but if it’s already on its way, it’s kinda out of my hands. Perhaps a gift for someone down the line?
What if my package doesn't arrive by an event deadline I set for myself?
Well shoot dang. Definitely take a look below at the estimated fulfillment and shipping times to see if your item might arrive by the date you’d like. If it doesn’t seem like it will, get in touch by email at orders@sierrasown.com and we might be able to rush something along for an extra charge. Once it’s in the mail carrier’s hands though, it’s at their timeline discretion and there’s nothing I can do except cross my fingers along with you.
What should I do if my order arrives and it's incorrect?
If an item arrives and it is incorrect, I’m so sorry! We’re all just humans here doing our best but I’ll want to remedy the situation. Please send an email to orders@sierrsown.com with the subject line “Incorrect Order” describing the issue and I’ll respond with the next best steps.
What should I do if my order arrives damaged?
Oh no! We don’t ever want that to happen, but if so, let’s fix the issue!
If an item arrives damaged, please take photos of the damage and get in touch with me by sending an email to orders@sierrasown.com with the subject line “Damaged Item” including photos and I’ll respond with the next best steps, depending on the item (handmade vs. print-on-demand).
What if I return/refuse an order without telling you first?
Please don’t return an order without contacting us first. No refund will be given since you totally didn’t read through any of these questions and I’ll have no idea what is happening if you don’t get in touch with me. I promise, I won’t bite and I do reply as quickly as I can to emails.
If a print-on-demand product gets returned or refused, it is returned to the fulfillment partner (not us!), and will be disposed of without further action. If we hear from you within 30 days of the original shipment, it may be possible to re-ship the item at your expense.
Shipping
What are the shipping options available?
Sierra Sown offers flat rate shipping and generally ships items via USPS.
How do I choose a shipping method?
Available shipping methods automatically appear at checkout depending on the items in your cart. If an option appears, click whichever option you want but if no option appears, the one shown is the only one available.
How is the shipping price calculated?
A magical algorithm of shipping wonderful-ness is applied. Most items ship for a flat rate of $5 unless they are very light (like stickers or greeting cards), or heavy/bulky/have strange packaging (like wall hangings).
What are your estimated delivery times for handmade products?
Available handmade items are fulfilled within 1-3 business days and then shipped via USPS Priority Mail or First Class which takes 2-4 business days.
Therefore, an estimated delivery date for handmade products is between 3-7 days after you place an order.
Keep in mind that these are estimates only; issues with carriers or fulfillment are not necessarily within our control. Please allow extra time for deliveries during peak holiday seasons.
What are your estimated delivery times for print-on-demand products?
Print-on-demand products are created on demand especially for you only when your order is placed and depending on the product, take about 2-7 business days for fulfillment and then 2-4 days for shipping after fulfillment.
Therefore, an estimated delivery date for print-on-demand products is between 4-11 days after you place an order.
Keep in mind that these are estimates only; issues with carriers or fulfillment are not necessarily within our control. Please allow extra time for deliveries during peak holiday seasons.
What if I order both handmade and print-on-demand products? Will they be shipped together?
These are shipped and will arrive separately (but you’ll only be charged once), since they are coming from different places.
Can I track my order?
When your order is shipped, tracking information is available to you by accessing yourMy Account page.
What happens if my order is delayed?
Oh no! Unfortunately, issues with carriers or print-on-demand fulfillment are not necessarily within our control. Please see the estimated delivery times for an idea of when your items might arrive (we’re not amazon prime!) and please allow extra time for deliveries during peak holiday seasons.
Do you ship to PO boxes of APO/FPO addresses?
Yep! If your address is accepted by the system, that means that we ship there. If your address is not accepted by the system, please choose a different shipping address to ensure your item(s) arrive.
Can I change my shipping address after placing an order?
Please contact me ASAP atorders@sierrasown.comif you need to change your shipping address. If your item has not been packaged and sent, it might be possible to change the address but no guarantees.
What if I put in the wrong shipping address?
If you provide an address that is considered insufficient or invalid by the carrier, print-on-demand shipments will be returned to the fulfillment partner, usually in North Carolina, sometimes in California. Handmade items will be returned to Mariposa, CA.
You will be liable for reshipment costs once an updated address has been confirmed with you via the email address you provided when the order was placed. Print-on-demand packages will be disposed of (usually donated to charity) without further action if we do not hear from you within 30 days of the original shipment date.
Can I put in two different shipping addresses?
Nope! Your order may have a billing address that is different from the shipping address, but the system allows only one shipping address per order: please plan accordingly, and be sure the ship-to address is correct.
Do you ship internationally?
Currently, orders are not accepted if the ship-to address is outside of the USA or Canada. This may change in the future—check back often!

Returns + Exchanges
What is your return policy?
It is always hoped that you will love your Sierra Sown item, a labor of love and a gift from nature, but if an item fails to meet your expectations, you may return any unworn, unwashed, odor-free (no smoke, animal, or other odors present), or defective item within 30 days of original ship date.
Please get in touch with us within 30 days of the original ship date by sending an email to orders@sierrasown.com with the subject line “Return Order” and include your order number and an explanation of the issue (the sooner the better!). Claims cannot be accepted after 30 days from the shipping date.
Refunds are only issued for the returned item’s original order value, to the original payment method, excluding shipping charges incurred.

What is your exchange policy?
Please get in touch with us by sending an email to orders@sierrasown.com with the subject line “Exchange Order” and an explanation of why you’d like to exchange your item.
If the item is a handmade item, we’ll have to figure out the best next steps since many of these items are original and unique.
If your item is a print-on-demand item, the quickest way to get your new item is to contact me about the exchange, receive a return authorization, place a new order, return the original order and then the refund will balance out the new order–make sense? But, please contact me before doing anything.
How long does it take to process a refund?
Please allow 7-14 business days for a refund to post to your account, depending upon your bank’s policies and procedures.
I received a Sierra Sown item as a gift but it doesn't fit/it's not quite my jam. Can i Return or exchange it?
PLEASE EMAIL ME BEFORE RETURNING AN ITEM! (If you don’t send me an email first, refunds will not be processed for unauthorized returns)
Once you receive a return authorization email from me, please include the following information with your return:
- Original Order number and/or Date
- Original Order Purchaser (billing) name (and Ship To name if different from billing)
- Address (billing & shipping if applicable)
- Phone
- Item returned
- Reason for return
- Indicate refund or exchange requested
